The “Silent Epidemic” of Early-Onset Alzheimer’s

young woman with hands on shoulders
An estimated 200,000 to 275,000 people in the United States alone are believed to have early-onset Alzheimer’s disease…

A study published in the journal Surgical Neurology International in 2015 highlighted a growing trend in the onset of dementia among people under 65 years of age. The study, authored by Colin Pritchard and Emily Rosenorn-Lanng of Bournemouth University in England, found that dementia and other neurological diseases among people in 21 Western countries between the ages of 55 and 74 had dramatically increased during 1989-2010. By 2010, the average age of people developing dementia was 10 years less than in 1989.1 2 3

Dementia is increasingly being diagnosed in people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. This phenomenon, known as “early-onset” (or “younger-onset”) dementia, has been referred to as a growing “silent epidemic” affecting younger people3 4—so much so that the media has begun to notice and report on individual cases.

People magazine recently highlighted the story of 32-year old ski instructor and photographer Becky Barletta who was diagnosed with early-onset dementia shortly after her marriage in 2015. There was the case of 29-year old mother-of-two Zoe Bottrill and the case of father-of-three Ken Dodson, also 29. The media is also reporting cases of childhood dementia, such as that of nine-year old Isobel Jeffery, two-year old Kade Gibbons, and one-year old Marian McGlocklin.5 6 7 8 9 10

An estimated 200,000 to 275,000 people in the United States alone are believed to have early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. (Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia.) This represents up to five percent of the estimated 5.5 million Americans with Alzheimer’s. Most people with early-onset dementia are diagnosed to have Alzheimer’s.11 12 13 14 15

The Alzheimer’s Association is projecting that by the year 2050 there will be 13.5 million Americans with Alzheimer’s.16 If the percentage of people in the U.S. with early-onset Alzheimer’s compared to the total number of people with Alzheimer’s remains constant, we may expect to have almost half a million Americans with early-onset Alzheimer’s in the next four decades. If growth trends in early-onset Alzheimer’s continue, however, we could have more than a million young to middle-aged Americans with this disease within two generations.

According to the Alzheimer’s Society, “The earlier the symptoms start, the more likely the disease is to be genetic.” This genetic form of the disease, known as “familial Alzheimer’s disease,” is caused by “rare mutations” in three genes—mutations found in 7-12 percent of people with early-onset Alzheimer’s.17

So what accounts for the remaining roughly 90 percent of people with early-onset Alzheimer’s? The study by Pritchard and Rosenorn-Lanng suggests “environmental factors.”1 Although the study did not specify which environmental factors, some of these could include greater exposure to petrochemicals and toxic herbicides and insecticides.18

Exposure to mercury could also be a contributing factor. In 2010, the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease published a study showing that long-term exposure to mercury may produce Alzheimer’s-like symptoms in people.19 Neuropharmacologist Richard Deth, PhD, one of the study’s authors, concluded, “Mercury is clearly contributing to neurological problems, whose rate is increasing in parallel with rising levels of mercury. It seems that the two are tied together.”

There have also been journal studies showing exposure to aluminum could be another factor in the onset of Alzheimer’s symptoms.20 21 22 An author of one of those studies, bioinorganic chemist Chris Exley, PhD, has observed that high levels of aluminum have been found in the brains of people with early-onset Alzheimer’s. “I don’t believe [aluminum] is the only factor, but I think it is an important one which should be considered very seriously,” says Dr. Exley.22

Mercury and aluminum are found in some foods, medications, personal care products, and other consumer goods like compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) and cookware. Both mercury (in the form of thimerosal) and aluminum are also used in vaccines—the former as a preservative and the latter as an adjuvant.23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31

  1. Excitotoxic foods and food additives are probably a major factor in early-onset dementia. Retired neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock’s book “Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills” is a good resource for people who want information on this.

“Dementia” in toddlers? How about we just call it what it is: vaccine injury. Blaylock has an excellent article on this also, easily found on the web: “The Danger of Excessive Vaccination During Brain Development.”

A great deal is already known about how to slow or stop the progression of dementia using diet, nutritional supplements, and herbs…but don’t expect a conventional medicine doctor to have a clue.

    1. Yes. Using clinical nutritional methods, alternative practitioners are the doctors of choice. Conventional medicine treatments offers no hope for people experiencing early neurodegenerative changes. Hope for a better future is still possible with the right kind of licensed doctor as your guide, who uses astute information gathering methods for the patient, and clinical nutrition, not just pharmaceuticals and a “good diet.”

Clicking my name, above, should link to an article I had written on this topic.

  2. Another possible explanation is that a variant of Mad Cow Disease is being diagnosed as Alzheimers. Two studies looking at people who died in nursing homes after a presumptive diagnosis of Alzheimers — conducted autopsies and discovered that like 5% in one study — and maybe 12% in the other….? actually had Mad Cow Disease. These were done well over a dozen years ago — and then promptly buried.

Then there is the excellent book,

    Dying for a Hamburger

    https://www.amazon.com/Dying-Hamburger-Processing-Epidemic-Alzheimers/dp/031234015X

Although it is no longer legal to feed dead cows back to other cows (what led to mad cow disease) they now feed dead cows to chickens, pigs and fish — and then those dead animals and/or their litter can be fed back to cows — so we are still doing the things that could be creating new strains of mad cow and there is some evidence that the prions can remain infectious via not just eating cows — but drinking milk and eating animals that contaminated cows have been fed to.

For a GREAT book – read Mad Cowboy by Howard Lyman — he’s the 4 th generation cattle rancher that was sued with Oprah for 20 million dollars for telling the American public the truth about all this. Wealthy Texas Cattle Ranghers apparently didn’t like him doing that.

  3. I agree…..I do believe it can be a combination of several factors….back in the 50’s & 60’s we didn’t hear about it. So I truly believe it is the increase in Vaccines (especially showing up in children), Low Fat Diet (luckily my family did not believe in), and all the all the Pesticides. We just need to try to keep educating. Blaylock’s book is the BEST.

  4. Prions (misfolded proteins) cause Alzheimers, so this means the prions are spreading because the vaccines bring down the immune system.
It takes over 1200 degree’s F to kill prions.
Soils contaminated with prions cannot be sterilized.
I believe prions came from feeding cattle the 1st generation of GMO feed.
This is why wild animals would get prions too from eating the gmo’s growing in the fields.

    1. As an added comment to Blake’s post, the herbicides glyphosate and glufosinate are synthetic analogs of the coding amino acids glycine and glutamic acid respectively. Glyphosate especially has been found in vaccines. Both these herbicides can be involved in protein syntheses which will cause the misfolding of the proteins, resulting in DNA damage, cell death and organ failure, and involved in Alzheimer’s disease.

  5. For three years I have searched for a product that breaks down scar tissue. My husbands throat was damaged while they saved his life from a heart attack causing him to have a trac. Anyway while trying out a new product on our pasture grass I was in shock that online people were drinking this called fulvic acid. My fulvic is made with coal or tar but this was made with trees. Anyway I started giving my husband driops daily knowing it had some of the items his blood tests showed he was low on and our last visit to doctors said he did not know how but the shelf that built up in his throat was dissolving and he is ready to take out the trac (t-tube). I said this to also say in my research this stuff also shows to break down tau protein in the brain that causes Alzheimer’s.

Most fulvic is 2-3 percent but this is 28-30 percent. Please know the product I am testing is for agriculture and my test is online at http://www.highpointcompany.com. when they tested it on wheat it was remarkable but realize they have more than just a soil amendment here.

  6. Thank you NVIC and everyone for sharing. This is a very informed community.

Dr Blaylock provides numerous podcasts about the synergy of chemtrail nanoparticles, (such as aluminum), glyphosate and genetically modified food, vaccine toxins, and monosodium glutamate (MSG). Individually, and especially in combination, these cause ASD symptoms in a young brain — and Alzheimer’s and dementia in an aged brain.

  7. Thanks for posting this article.
Research has reached a tipping point and Aluminum is the cause of Alzheimer’s. Take a look at this article https://universityhealthnews.com/daily/memory/aluminum-linked-to-alzheimers-disease/

People are getting Alzheimer’s at a younger age as we are being exposed to more Aluminum. Aluminum slowly accumulates in our brain over our lifetime. Dr. Chris Exley published a paper recently showing the highest levels of Aluminum ever observed were found in the brains of people with early onset. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-4047426/Aluminium-DOES-cause-Alzheimer-s-Expert-says-new-findings-confirm-metal-devastating-brain-disease.html
The good news is silca water removes aluminum from our bodies. Take a look at this video there is a graph of world wide production of aluminum worldwide and the prevalence of Alzheimer’s in the US. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGmYsFPHguA

  8. I didn’t know that Alzheimer’s disease could affect a person who is below 50 years old. Alzheimer’s disease is not fatal but it could ruin the social life of a person. So, early symptoms shouldn’t be ignored and the reason behind the appearance of such symptoms should be diagnosed. An Alzheimer’s disease patient could live a happy and stable life like a normal person with proper medication and care. For more information about the symptom of such disease, readers may like to visit https://coltenadultcare.com/stages-of-alzheimers-disease/
