Poland, Romania Resist Brussels Court Order to Pay $2.2 Billion to Pfizer

Poland, Romania Resist Brussels Court Order to Pay .2 Billion to Pfizer

A court in Belgium has ordered Poland and Romania to proceed with paying €1.9 billion ($2.2 billion) for purchasing mRNA COVID-19 shots from Pfizer, Inc. and BioNTech SE in a case brought by Pfizer three years ago. The lawsuit and court judgement has intensified a broader legal dispute over mRNA COVID shot contracts signed by European Union countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ruling follows a lawsuit filed by Pfizer in 2023 after both countries stopped accepting vaccine deliveries agreed to under a large European Commission (EC) procurement deal.1

During the peak of the pandemic, the EC and E.U. governments agreed to buy large volumes of COVID vaccines amid fears of supply shortages.2

Poland halted the purchase agreement in April 2022, citing changing pandemic conditions, the war in Ukraine, and concerns that Pfizer may have abused its dominant market position. Romania later adopted a similar stance. However, the Brussels court rejected these arguments and ruled that both countries must accept and pay for the mRNA COVID shots. Poland must take €1.3 billion ($1.5 billion) worth of doses, while Romania must take €600 million ($650–700 million). Pfizer said it expects both countries to pay.3

In a statement, Poland’s Health Ministry said that “Poland intends to pursue all legal remedies available to it to amend this ruling and defend its interests.”4

Legal Cases Spread Across Europe as Countries Challenge COVID Shot Contracts

The dispute extends beyond Poland and Romania. Hungary has also joined the legal conflict, with all three countries preparing to face Pfizer in Brussels, Belgium over COVID shot contracts signed during the pandemic. These cases challenge the E.U.’s joint vaccine procurement system, which the EC negotiated to secure large quantities of the mRNA biological product for member states at the height of the COVID pandemic.5

As demand for COVID shots declined after the pandemic eased, several governments attempted to renegotiate or reduce their orders to avoid excess costs. Poland and Romania pushed for deeper cuts than those permitted under existing agreements.6

Pfizer has argued that the contracts remain legally binding and form a key part of the E.U.’s coordinated pandemic response. The company said the ruling reinforces the importance of honoring advance purchase commitments made during a period of collective crisis management.7

Officials in both countries have signaled resistance. Poland’s Health Ministry said it plans to explore legal options to challenge the decision and assess its financial impact. Romania’s Health Minister Alexandru Rogobete warned that the total cost could increase further due to delay penalties, describing the expense as comparable to building a regional hospital.8

Despite potential appeals, the ruling remains enforceable, meaning both countries must comply unless a higher court overturns it. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk blamed the situation on decisions made by the previous government, highlighting the political tensions surrounding the case.9

  1. Poland, Romania and Hungary should NOT have to pay for vaccines that they did not order- Brussels should be responsible. Hope this higher court sees it the same. Pfizer is so greedy and corrupt. They need to lose this battle and stop pushing all their poison.

  2. Government to corporate fascist partnerships.

Your tax dollars. Hard at work.

One question: Did the citizens ever get a chance to vote on this matter?

“Protecting democracy.” Brought to you by Phizer.

  3. They Should NOT Pay for the Death JibJab it was not a Vaccine but a GENE ALTERING JAB with long term consequences ,,, Instead they should Sue Pfizer / Moderner for Excess Deaths / injury post JibJab ,,,

  4. It’s all about the money. Pfizer needs to prove how safe and effective the shots were, the debilitating side effects, and the deaths they caused. All good for a counter suit. Hopefully these countries get out of the WHO.

  5. Poland and Romania should leave WHO, the EU, and the EC, as they are three useless organizations. They’re right, and they should stick to their decision and keep their money. By the way, the USA should leave the UN and NATO, two more useless organizations. And, we should also keep our money.

  6. The EC was paid off to agree this insane purchase from Pfizer. The whole thing was financial fraud. If Pfizer wants payment they should also be held liable for any and all vaccine injuries and deaths.

  7. This is the abuser abusing even more in an attempt to consolidate its position, in an attempt to (re-)convince the sceptics that they were legit, while they never were. Pfipfi and all the other companies making war apparel don’t do it for the money, they work for the devil himself, they do it for the profit they gain out of evil. Will all the money they have, with all the influence they have, they could make the biggest profit ever just by offering products that really make life better for everybody. But they deliberately choose to do harm, since forever, since their inception, lookup their history.
They are just an evil entitiay posing as a corporation, posing as driven by profit and stockholders and market competition while being funded by the same source. It’s all facades to hide their true nature and the government basically tells us it’s ok to kill people and inflict suffering on many generations in the name of money, profit, market competition etc. While any real representatives would immediately agree that doing such evil can never be allowed, legalized, goodwashed etc.

  9. Go ahead and comply. Pay the money. This secures the validity of the agreement with Pfizer. Then sue for all they’re worth due to them not delivering an effective, safe vaccine.

  10. All these international NGO’S need to be desolved. UN, EU, WEF and WHO have all gotten too big for their britches.
