Chemical Imbalance Not a Major Cause of Depression, Studies Find

antidepressant pills

A new study published recently in the Journal of Molecular Psychiatry questions the hypothesis that serotonin inhibition is the cause of most depression disorders. About 21 million Americans are affected by major depressive disorder with one in six Americans taking antidepressant medication.1 2 3

The serotonin theory of depression came about in the 1950’s when researchers found that the drug, iproniazid, which was used for the treatment of tuberculosis, helped alleviate depressive symptoms in patients.4 Iproniazid inhibits the monoamine oxidase enzyme (MAOI), which recycles the monoamine neurotransmitters, serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine.5 This discovery led to the theory that depressed individuals have lower levels of monoamine neurotransmitters.

In 1965, psychiatrist Joseph Schildkraut, MD suggested that low levels of norepinephrine was the catalyst behind depression. Researchers then changed the focus to another neurotransmitter, serotonin, as the cause of depression.6

In 1987, Eli Lily introduced Prozac (fluoxetine) for major depressive disorder. The drug selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (SSRI) and quickly became the best-selling antidepressant of all time. In 1992, Pfizer marketed another SSRI called Zoloft with the ad campaign declaring that antidepressants worked because depression was due to a chemical imbalance.7

In the most recent study, six European researchers undertook a systemic umbrella review of 17 studies that included tens of thousands of participants in order to determine whether SSRI’s were an effective treatment for depression. They concluded that there was no evidence that depression was caused by lowered serotonin levels.8

There has been [three] decades of intense research on many aspects of the serotonin activity in depression, and we found that it provides no support for the idea that depression is caused by low serotonin.9

Lead researcher, psychiatry professor, Joanna Moncrieff warned:

Patients should not be told that depression is caused by low serotonin or by a chemical imbalance and they should not be led to believe that antidepressants work by targeting these hypothetical and unproven abnormalities. In particular, the idea that antidepressants work in the same way as insulin for diabetes is completely misleading. We do not understand what antidepressants are doing to the brain exactly, and giving people this sort of misinformation prevents them from making an informed decision about whether to take antidepressants or not.10

Chemical Imbalance Theory of Depression Long Debunked by Many Doctors

The recent findings were not news to many psychiatrists and medical researchers who discounted the chemical imbalance theory of depression years ago. Michael Bloomfield, MD, a consultant psychiatrist and head of translational psychiatry research at University College London, said:

The findings from this umbrella review are really unsurprising. Depression has lots of different symptoms and I don’t think I’ve met any serious scientists or psychiatrists who think that all causes of depression are caused by a simple chemical imbalance in serotonin.11

Even though the chemical imbalance theory of depression was abandoned long ago by many experts in the field of psychiatry, the public has been carefully taught and continues to believe that depression is caused by low serotonin and can only be corrected by taking antidepressant drugs. A 2013 Australian study found that 88.1 percent of study participants thought that depression was caused by a chemical imbalance.

Moncrieff and other authors of the recent study attribute this misperception to effective but false advertising by pharmaceutical companies targeting the public to increase sales of antidepressants.

Researchers Found Antidepressant Marketing Campaigns Misleading

In 2005, a pair of professors challenged heavy direct-to-consumer marketing campaigns promoting SSRI’s as a cure for the chemical imbalance that causes depression. Their article, “Serotonin and Depression: A Disconnect Between the Advertisements and the Scientific Literature revealed the truth behind aggressive SSRI marketing campaigns, such as Pfizer’s television advertising for the antidepressant Zoloft claiming that the drug “works to correct” chemical imbalance in the body.

The authors found no scientific evidence that depression was caused by a serotonin deficiency. In fact, they suggested that research has shown that there is scant evidence that any mental disorder is caused by a deficiency in any single neurotransmitter.

The article states:

In short, there exists no rigorous corroboration of the serotonin theory, and a significant body of contradictory evidence. Far from being a radical line of thought, doubts about the serotonin hypothesis are well acknowledged by many researchers, including frank statements from prominent psychiatrists, some of whom are even enthusiastic proponents of SSRI medications.12

The researchers concluded that the advertising for SSRI’s did not reflect the evolving research debunking the serotonin hypothesis, and that direct-to-consumer advertisements suggesting that antidepressants could normalize neurotransmitters to stop depression is not backed by good scientific evidence. However, despite sending ten warning letters to drug manufacturers after the article was written, FDA officials took no further steps to curtail these misleading antidepressant marketing practices.13

Antidepressants Found to Have No Real Impact on Quality of Life

Another large study published in PLOS One in April 2022 found that the quality of life was no different for patients who took antidepressants and those who did not. The study looked at a large number of adult patients who participated in  the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics annual health survey between 2005 and 2015. About 17.5 million people in the study had been diagnosed with depression and 58 percent of them had been prescribed an antidepressant.

The surveys tracked mental and physical health of the participants for two years after a diagnosis of depression. Mental health was assessed by asking about the participant’s ability to socialize, limitations of emotional problems, psychological distress, and general well-being. Physical health was measured by looking at overall physical function, limitations, pain, energy levels, fatigue and general health status.14

After two years, participants who took antidepressants reported feeling no better than participants who did not take antidepressants.

The study’s lead author, Omar Almohammed, PhD, a professor of clinical pharmacy concluded that doctors “might be relying on the use of antidepressant medications, while underutilizing or underestimating the role and impact of non-therapeutic interventions.”

COVID Pandemic Response Policies May Be Increasing Antidepressant Market

The recent study has even greater implications because antidepressant use surged around the globe during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the start of the COVID pandemic between February and March 2020, as lockdowns, masking and other social distancing restrictions were imposed, there was a 18.6 percent increase in the number of prescriptions filled for antidepressant medications in the U.S.15

In Israel, a June 2022 nationwide a data analysis study showed that the monthly prescription fills for antidepressants rose two percent per month over 11 months, whereas monthly fills for antidepressants prior to the COVID pandemic had been decreasing monthly. In fact, there was a greater increase in antidepressant prescription fills In Israel during the COVD pandemic than during the Gaza War.16

Another study in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of Italy showed that antidepressant use averaged 20 percent higher for each month in 2020 compared to the same months from 2015 to 201917 In 2021, 12 percent of the U.K. population, 8.3 million people used antidepressants, while 23 percent of Americans took prescription medication for mental health and most of the prescriptions were for antidepressants.18

Symptoms of Depression in American Adults Triple During COVID Pandemic

Many studies show that rates of depression have dramatically increased during the COVID pandemic. A study by Boston University School of Public Health compared data on depression obtained before the COVID pandemic to the same data during the pandemic. Data prior to the pandemic showed that 8.5 percent of adults in the U.S. had symptoms of depression. In the first few months of the pandemic, these numbers were three times higher with 27.8 percent of adults in the U.S. stating that they had symptoms of depression. In the spring of 2021, the percent of American adults reporting depressive symptoms rose even further to 32.8 percent.19

The finding that chemical imbalance is not a major cause of depression that can be cured with antidepressants, which many physicians have known for a long time, may be unwelcome news to the millions of people around the world now suffering with depression, as rates continue to soar in every country.

  1. Practical homeopathy can help with anxiety depression and whole host of mental conditions. I have been helped by taking a homeopathic protocol and learned it from Joette Calabrese and I am currently learning to become a certified practical homeopath.

  2. There are now well over 300 classifications of mental illness whereas 60 years ago there were maybe 15-20. This has allowed the chemical imbalance lie to proliferate so that hundreds of new drugs could be marketed for mental illnesses. All of it is totally fake just like the vaccination parade.

    1. You’re wrong. Lack of nutrients as well as iodine in our diets has contributed to an explosion of numerous health issues then passed on to our children, grandchildren & so forth. Look up “Pottengers Prophecy”. Thyroid disorders have soared & it is proven that pregnant women w/ undiagnosed thyroid issues contribute to ADHD in their children, amongst other issues. My husband & I didn’t vaccinate our child with ANYTHING & she suffers from ADHD, SCD, mental health issues that are unfortunately on BOTH her Dad & my side as well as finding out I have Graves disease after the fact. I wish I was wrong, trust me. Even with the cleanest of diets, growing our own food; we as a world are DOOMED & yes. I am absolutely ANTI pharmaceutical, a.k.a. pharmacopeia, sorcery, etc…

      1. When birth control in pharmaceutical form first came out in I think it was the 50’s, many doctors at the time warned of the unknown long term consequences of tinkering with hormonal balances. Also warning there could be systemic complications down the lineage line which the human race may never recover from. Just saying.

Your causal evidence is just that, because you did not mention if your parents were vaccinated, if you ever in your life consumed glyphosate, took birth control or your parents did, if you lived in areas with lead water lines, if you are in areas where chemtrail spraying is prolific, etc, etc, the list goes on longer than imaginable. It’s like loony toons to be on about all the unnecessary diagnoses, and health damaging treatments they prescribe. It’s highly probable that the non naturally occurring but rather chemically derived flouride in your water and tooth pastes acted synergestically with other environmental toxicity you were exposed to, which gave you Graves disease.

Thoughts of life and death on the brink of the millennium.

  3. If it cannot be proven that antidepressants targeting serotonin will improve a person’s depression, than it should not be okay with FDA. Unfortunately, it may be the larger truth that The FDA acquiesces to Big Pharma.
As a therapist, I gain more positive ground with clients identifying as depressed through listening, suggesting lifestyle changes, being aware of their frailties, and assist them in practicing newer ways approaches all of life’s issues.

    1. Ah Elaine, life within the illusion, an interesting perspective. There is no may be about it; FDA is big pharma. They are indistinguishable from each other at this point. Regulatory protection mechanisms are rubber stamped for sale and have not withstood the test of time, these institutions are utterly absolutely failed enterprises. Two words; Poisonous Protectionism. Your tax dollars, hard at work.

Take them to the track or gym instead and set up a bbq station near the office front door. For real.

Step one detox the pharmaceuticals and bio accumulation of other toxic elements we take in from food, air, water. Step two boost metabolism with better food choices and exercise. Step three, enjoy the good things in life without regret. Have a drink, have a smoke, eat a steak. Step four, teach effective ways for people to avoid exploitative commercialization of everything good and decent in this world. Final step; live your life free of the yolk of bondage. That’s all it takes. No ‘professional’ assistance required.

There is a time and place for therapy, it is a minuscule portion of society whom actually needs that. Unfortunately what the unwitting victims of the pharmaceutical cartel need most is a good class action lawyer, and a knowledgeable natural mechanisms to health advisor. In their ignorance, they seek solutions in needles, bottles, and practitioners whom provide things which are mostly irrelevant to actual needs. It’s a they sold it you bought it sort of philosophical argument that extends all the way to the pointless oversupply of people trained in these supposed sciences.

If people demonstrate frailty, conquer that with strength and a firm hand like that of a parent, that the world is not in place which will listen or bend to their needs. There is a reason the human race in general has repeatedly adopted status quo positions through multiple civilizations and expectations for society at large. In our modern egotism we somehow convince ourselves of a false reality, a dichotomy where everyone can be a unique snowflake, that people are obliged to care, that personal feelings should be prioritized above so many other considerations. We’re not obliged, and those whom can’t deal with it need to get over themselves. It’s getting so bad they have more than one gender, more than one identity, personality disorders pages long, and willingly seek out despair which is conveniently provided (for profit of course) from the bureaucratic institutions we call health care whom are standing by to diagnose anything and everything a person may be ‘feeling’.

I’m coming on a George Carlin moment here: It’s a big club and you and I are not in it. We are not in the big club. / Now get me off of this damned couch! lol.

  4. In the 50s & 60s the psychiatric profession was not popular because of the stigma and because of fear of being locked up and given shock treatments or lobotomy. The Dr who came up with drugs to alleviate depression admitted on his death bed is was all a scam to make money & improve the business/ respect of psychiatry.
It is well known that pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, heavy metals and other chemicals can not only cause cancer and [according to CDC 80% of all diseases are environmental] but are DESIGNED TO AFFECT THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM & PREVENT THE UPTAKE OF VITAMINS,MINERALS,HORMONES & ENZYMES. This is how poison works. Mercury attaches to magnesium receptors and you can no longer up take Mg [which is deficient already in soil] which is needed for over 300 functions of the body including putting calcium in your bones. FLUORIDE blocks uptake of iodine causing mass hypothyroidism, hormone imbalance, brittle bones & teeth [which APPEAR DENSER on X ray], cholesterol imbalance and prevents reproduction. Malathione diazonone, lead arsenate Roundup sprayed by the ton kill by disrupting the CNS or the shikimite pathway which ruins your gut /brain connection. Every single chronically poisoned person has “DERANGED MINERALS” Our bodies are assaulted daily and if you live or work in a polluted area[city, factory, lab, chemical plant, farm] you are 10X more likely to be depressed. Also there is the food we are tricked into thinking is good for us. Diabetics still told to drink diet soda which is full of aspartame[Nutrasweet]. Scientists fought for 12 years to keep this off market because it literally ate holes in the brains of rats and they knew it was unsafe but $$ prevailed. Not to mention so far every single mass shooter was found to be on antidepressants , anti-psychotics or both. Side effects are suicidal & homicidal thoughts and both acts are way up in relation to increase in use of these drugs. What is the answer? Clean up you diet, environment, and get some exercise [proven to even more effective for depression than pills] . There is also chelation and sauna to help rid yourself of poisons. Check to see if you have mouthful of amalgams and root canals as well which can quietly poison you for decades.

    1. Awesome CAWS, you know the issue up and down. Just a few interesting factoids for you; Avoid ‘hydrolyzed’ anything. These salt like substances are actually only a few molecular bonds away from being antifreeze. People are unwittingly preserving their own organs. / Legal help and or MJ plants are special in terms of bio availability for food producing plants, because they are known to pull minerals deep from the soils and bring them to the surface for better food availability to the end consumer. In the fever or MJ prohibition, this entire country unwittingly removed one of the essential farm products which worked in unison with resting periods to replenish top soils. At one point it was farmers duty to grow hemp, and whether they understood this or not, such activity played an essential role in keeping soils rich with bio available minerals and other rich soil components. / It is supposedly proven that many imitation or less quality butter items contribute to poor health. Like diet sugars, imitation butter builds plaque and reduces metabolism and other digestive responses. Add cholesterol to the growing list of things the medical community got wrong in large part. Eating real quality butter is said to boost metabolism, help digestion, etc. Our lives changed when we ‘got dangerous oils’ out of our lives. We now use only legitimate olive oil (affordable at costco), and avoid all manner of processed and restaurant foods with other types of oils. Although if you stay dedicated it’s fine to take those in now and then without fear of bio accumulation, just flush them out. / And lastly, get plastic out of your life. Never select products which are liquid and sit in plastic. We even bought our own old fashioned metal ice cube trays and metal popsicle molds.

Here is a good one; natural chelation at home. It can be done. Recipe; Large handfuls of cilantro, fresh, uncut. Add to water which is warm and simmering but not boiling (as boiling will destroy what you’re hoping to get out of it). Sit in pan full half hour, press, strain, use liquid only in glasses for drinking. Must add olive oil or similar substrate to assist the dispersion as much of what the cilantro will release is not water soluble. Add a tea bag or two for more palatable flavor, or even a small amount of sugar. That is the drink part. The cilantro will cause heavy metals deposited in human tissue throughout the body to release and be ready to flush out. Just one problem; it will re bond and redeposit to internal tissue without something for the toxins to bind to and flush it out. That’s where garlic comes in, as it will attract heavy metals to flush them out, but you need a lot of it. Take about 3-4 full garlic heads per person served. Peel, do not crush, but rather thin slice. It’s tedious and takes forever, prepare ahead of time then wait to add. Then sizzle a modest amount of ground beef and onion (for palatability as it’s difficult to consume this much garlic), cook well with lots of olive oil and some salt. Right as that’s almost finished cooking, add in garlic for a light lower heat sizzle, do not over cook garlic or like the cilantro, you’ll lose what you’re looking for. Consume copious amounts of the garlic, followed by a large glass of cilantro tea. This is natural chelation and has been stated to be able to detox adults, children, and can be strong enough with repeated treatments to reduce effects of many ailments, including things speculated to be caused by heavy metal deposits such as alzheimers and autism. / We initially vaccinated our first daughter at just under 2 years old, although we had waited until that point. We knew this was a mistake as our fears came true, neural screaming, glazed over eyes, less responsive behavior, etc. We immediately made this for our daughter and somehow got her to drink the cilantro through a bottle. A few treatments and a few weeks later, she was all better and we observed marked health benefits and flushing ourselves. So we do this every few years and always include far more garlic in home made spaghetti’s and such now, also reaching more often for deli ready fresh chip dip which has real cilantro in this. Hispanic communities are known to consume a lot of cilantro and this brings a likely correlation with lower levels of autism and a variety of chronic ailments in this particular population set. Because cilantro is rather unique in it’s isotopic ability to break a metal bond from internal tissue. Many asian communities also have marked reduction in certain ailments, attributed to their garlic rich diets. (it is said you can smell the garlic coming off those people and it’s true, after you eat this meal you’ll sweat garlic for the next week and stink of it, but that’s how you know it’s working to expel toxins at the cellular level which flush not just through liver and kidneys but also through your sweat and pores via the skin.)

Beyond that, some swear by the silver argument, that when our money contained real silver, we all absorbed that through our skin which acted much like silver supplements today. Carry a real silver oz in your pocket and fiddle with it often. We use IW brand iodine and Health Ranger brand pure pressed spirulina which is basically condensed pond scum. But spirulina is shown in spectrographic imaging to have very high energy and unlike other molecules who’s isotopic qualities are nullified upon engaging with the anti oxidant and binding to toxic elements process, the spirulina is like a little soldier that maintains half life and positive charge for possibly a full month, despite how many toxins it comes into contact with in your blood stream. Seek out condensed pressed pills not powdered although one could sub something similar with wheat grass drinks.

FYI, the Monsanto Tribunal is still active and making progress, good idea to subscribe to this group. I subscribe to The Cornicopia Institute here in the USA, and their food scorecards are invaluable to help consumers avoid product fraud, especially for staples like granola, wheat, milk, eggs, etc, etc. Be sure to check out their scorecards, we changed nearly all of our brand choices based on their vital information. Anyways, thanks.

  5. BTW both PAXIL and PROZAC are very high dose FLUORIDE . This was used by Hitler in water in the concentration camps to keep the people subdued , sick & stupid [ scientists have proof now that it lowers IQ see http://www.fluorideactionnetwork.org] and destroy the thyroid to make them sterile.
There was a recent large study done with about 9000 men & women in nursing homes on these drugs and after a year they saw 50% MORE hip fractures than those who did not take the drugs; BECAUSE it makes for denser appearing but much more BRITTLE bones.

    1. That figures. Wonderful. At every turn, pharma pushing false claims and dangerous products.

A doctor tried to prescribe me anti depressants for pain management once. I had serious issues at the time and took one single pill. I felt like myself behind a pane of glass, like obscured to myself. It’s quite difficult to explain but one pill was like a hard drug experience and I never took another. They kept sending me auto refill notices which of course I called in and said take that off my meds list, don’t want that crap. I had better success with beer and baby aspirin, no psychological side effects. These people should really have to endorse their own products with personal use before they’re allowed to prescribe such junk. Hell, maybe they do which is why they don’t think straight. Everyone I meet who’s on these pills seems especially susceptible to propaganda which is quite odd and seems to be an undeniable correlation, happens every time.

  6. I took Saraphem for years, it’s a brand version of prozac labeled for “PMS” basically. It worked well for me, I hated that I had to take it but it kept me from driving my car off a cliff. Weirdly they took it off the market a few years ago with no explanation. So now there is only regular Prozac or generic, both of which only work a little for me. I take it one day a week and that’s enough, I’d rather not take it at all. I am trying to rely on exercise, eating right, meditation, but that’s not always enough for everyone and some people need an anti depressant. It would not surprise me if the vaccines we took as children, along with environmental toxins are the cause of so much mental illness today.

    1. You’re drinking the kool aid Janet. Try marijuana edibles and or cbd oil. You do have a choice. These are mild psychoactive substances if you take them in moderation and can have many therapeutic effects on body and mind. Many people mistake their lethargy for some mental issue when what they’re actually dealing with is excess emf field exposure or some other food or environmental toxin which causes excess and prolonged inflammation of the body.

Get wireless devices out of your life. Keep it wired, keep it safe. Stop drinking tap water, get a berkey water filter or whole home high end reverse osmosis and filter system. Never drink pop again, and be a label watcher, avoid everything with aspartame, sucralose, or other diet sugars. Never reach for diet anything as that can contribute to the issue. How on earth did humans survive and thrive prior to the advent of these substances? Come back to reality, you don’t need it. For the food it’s important, get yourself a simple organic garden going, get more sun and try gardening bare foot to assist in electrical balance within your body or don’t be afraid to get out there and get your hands muddy at least once a week.

  7. Thank you, CAWS, for your wisdom above. Some years ago, your comments on Mercola reassured me about having my root canal teeth extracted and wisdom tooth cavitations cleaned out by a biodentist. Thanks!

I would like to emphasize that mercury is the most dangerous, non-radioactive neurotoxin on the planet. Mercury is a primary cause of mental illness. It is not easy to test for and not easy to remove from your body. It is caused, in large part, by amalgam dental fillings which are 50% mercury, but also from environmental factors and from vaccine preservatives. And if you choose to have it removed from your teeth, you must take safe precautions and only use a dentist who follows the SMART protocol. A description of this protocol is available on the website of the International Academy for Oral Medicine and Toxicology.

Mercury interferes (as CAWS stated above) with every hormonal and enzymatic process in the body causing profound damage to connective tissue (think arthritis, disc degeneration) to dysfunction of all major organs. One’s ability to move mercury out of the body depends on individual genetics. For information on a safe, low-dose method of chelation and a list of symptoms, I recommend researching the Andy Cutler Chelation protocol. See “The Mercury Detoxification Manual” by Rebecca Lee and Andrew Hall Cutler, PhD, PE.

For a history of the use of mercury in medicine and of how Freud totally missed mercury as the cause of “hysteria” and other mental illnesses in late his 19th century patients (and instead developed the useless psychoanalysis as a treatment), read: “The Age of Autism,” 2010, by Dan Olmsted and Mark Blaxill.

    1. I’ve got a mouth full of metal, circa 80’s & 90’s dentistry. It’s true. What you say is true. However, you don’t need to get them all changed out at once and unless they set up a dental dam rubber triage sort of deal, you may get excess exposure from having all the work done at once. I just have them changed out one at a time if that particular tooth still needs work.

There are other things to mitigate this problem too. There is a lot of information out there pointing to pure coconut oils actually regenerating teeth and really helping. I reach only exclusively for Dr Bronners toothpastes, and Infowars brand iodine tooth pastes. There is some concern about too much micro silver in toothpaste so it’s not proven, but I swear, I’ve never had such good mouth health since I switched to these two products. All my yearly cavities, just stopped. For real, switch toothpaste brands immediately. Took down all my sensitivity and such too, no more gingivitis, etc. And I still have pretty irresponsible actions like I drink and smoke and only brush once a day sometimes, floss when I feel like it, try to once every two weeks at least. People are pleasantly unaware that their toothpaste does more harm than good and is not actually performing as claimed. Follow with listerine and never use flouridated mouth wash.

  8. I agree with mristi…..Homeopathics do work. However, I know that many Glandular supplements for Pituitary, Thyroid, Adrenal…….or combination for all work as well, or in combination with Homeopathics. Look at how many commercials are on T.V. —-well, if this anit-depressant isn’t working…..we will Add in this one……maybe the Combo will work. Drugs don’t fix Glandular imbalances or anything else, they Mask the underlining Cause. I’m sorry so many of my friend have gone this direction…..saying…..”well the Dr. said”. I could scream.

  9. As a child of the 50’s and 60’s, it is hard not to feel doomed. We chased the DDT trucks as kids, played with mercury straight out of a bottle, had fluoride treatments as well as fluoridated drinking water. (Oregon). And we all have fillings galore! Why bother trying to arrest my depression at this point? I took amitryptaline for a decade with some improvement, but have not taken or trusted antidepressants for 20 years. While I understand that lifestyle changes are my best way to alleviate symptoms, I am old now, without resources, and my depression feels much more motivated than I do. Where do I go? Where does a whole screwed up generation go? We have all been poisened, and I see many of us behaving badly these days.

    1. The foods you grew up with were all organic but today we need to be much more careful what food we reach for. And I know it’s hard to get your mind around, but the current generation has even more exposure than you did, to more dangerous substances too.

You are what you eat. Food is medicine. Start by reverting to the older familiar technology and eliminate all the dangerous field frequencies from your life. Keep it wired keep it safe. Don’t give up.

  10. I lost my cousin 6 years ago to severe depression. I don’t know if any shrink looks at the big picture but I contribute my cousins demise to a former brain injury when she was a teen plus undiagnosed postpartum depression. She was a red head and very sensitive to medications. There are so many factors that play into depression. And yes I do feel changes in diet can help but like most of you commented above we have been poisoned with food, vaccines and environmental factors. Bless all of you with health.

  11. Great commentary here guys and gals, excellent, thank you.

Now, on to some article commentary; “The researchers concluded that the ADVERTISING for SSRI’s did not reflect the evolving research debunking the serotonin hypothesis, and that DIRECT-TO-CONSUMER ADVERTISEMENTS suggesting that antidepressants could normalize…”

HULK MAD! SMASH PHARMA COMMERCIALS! TRASH TELEVISION! STOP! STOP NOW! ANGERY! NO WANT WATCH PHARMA COMMERCIALS! TRASH! STOP! STOP DTC PHARMA COMMERCIALS NOW! AAANNNGGEEERRRRYYYYYYYYYYYY!

It’s the absolute bane of television, direct to consumer pharma commercials. This reminds me, I had intended to write a lot of hate mail to these channels for even fielding these commercials. Like you idiots, do you know how to accept a cookie or laundry soap commercial or at this point I don’t care what it is, STOP IT WITH THE NON STOP PHARMA COMMERCIALS! Sometimes I go to youtube and just watch 80’s or 90’s television commercial compilations. You should do that for perspective, commercials never used to be like this and big corps never used to control content or programming either. Specific studies show that for every DTC pharma commercial pushed out, it actually assists pharma in growing bigger. It’s a circle jerk tax write off, brought to you by the absolutely corrupt criminal conspirators at phizer. Last night I heard about a dog pharma med with possible side effects. And something with a bent carrot for male health pills. Side effects include an incredible list of shocking health effects which in no way what so ever offer a positive risk vs reward health benefit. It’s criminal to advertise substances clearly this dangerous. It’s clearly gone to far. STOP NOW.

Please join me in my quest to hate on any company pushing direct to consumer (DTC) pharma ads, for life, and never stop.
