[T]his is an unfortunate case because there are now 252,000 doses of a DPT vaccine—the diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus vaccine—that have been released to the Center for Disease Control in Shandong, which is responsible for 100 million people and their public health. And, unfortunately, while we know that these vaccines are substandard and may not be effective, we still don’t know the extent to which these doses have been introduced to the children and what some of the downstream consequences might be.
