The 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 taking on the King of England had a vision. Many were well-educated and in their 30s and 40s, married and raising children in the 13 original colonies. Most were attorneys and jurists, while others were merchants, shippers, farmers, physicians, ministers and other professions. They had a lot to lose if they failed in their quest to throw off the yoke of tyranny and create a new Republic. They dreamed of a nation where all would be free to respect “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”
