Polio Case in New York Caused by “Vaccine-Derived” Poliovirus

poliovirus

Opinion | The first reported case of polio in the United States since 2013 was confirmed in New York last week. According to New York health officials, a young adult in Rockland County contracted type 2 “vaccine-derived” poliovirus (VDPV2), which may have been transmitted by someone who received the Sabin live attenuated oral polio vaccine (OPV). The unidentified person, who developed paralysis, was temporarily hospitalized and released. 1 2 3 4 5 6

“VDPV2, or type 2 poliovirus, is a type of poliovirus derived from the oral polio vaccine which utilizes a live form of the virus. For a short period of time, a newly vaccinated individual may potentially transmit the live virus through stool,” said Hannah Newman, MPH, director of infection prevention at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.7

In the mid-1990s, co-founders of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) called on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to discontinue use of live OPV in the U.S. and replace it with the Salk inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) that cannot cause vaccine strain polio.8

Although it is still given to people, in many countries around the world, the OPV has not been used in the U.S. since 2000. The U.S. administers only the IPV.1 3 4 5

Beth Cefalu, the director of strategic communications for Rockland County, said that the polio case in New York is under investigation, but that the infected individual was not believed to have traveled outside the U.S. to a country where type 2 vaccine-derived polioviruses are prevalent.1 3

A STAT News article concluded:

If that is the case, that would indicate someone else inadvertently imported the virus, suggesting there may be additional undetected transmission.1

Most Cases of Paralytic Polio Caused by Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus

In a 2019 article, The Vaccine Reaction reported that the World Health Organization (WHO) had observed a big increase VDPV2 cases that year in multiple countries that administer the OPV to children. The majority of paralytic polio cases identified in the world were caused by outbreaks of VDPV2 cases in Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin, Ghana, Ethiopia, Somalia, China, Myanmar, Kenya, Central African Republic (CAR), Angola, Somalia, and Papua New Guinea, Indonesia.8 9

NVIC co-founder and president Barbara Loe Fisher noted:

In impoverished communities with substandard sanitation and living conditions, vaccine strain poliovirus can contaminate water sources used for bathing and drinking, which can lead to more cases of vaccine strain polio paralysis. Until polio eradication campaigns stop using live oral polio vaccine, the vaccine strain polio virus will continue to cripple children and adults.8

Vaccine-Derived Poliovirus Detected in London Sewage

Earlier this year, traces of VDPV2 were found in a sewage plant in London. People who have been vaccinated with OPV can shed the poliovirus in their stools and this can be detected in wastewater. The U.K. Health Security Agency (UHSA) said that the virus was likely brought into the United Kingdom by someone who was recently vaccinated with the OPV.7 10

Kimberly Thompson, president of the nonprofit Kid Risk, Inc. in Orlando, Florida, speculates that the poliovirus case in New York may have originated with contaminated sewage, as in the case in London. “With COVID having disrupted immunization [in the U.S.] and travel now having resumed and much more type 2 poliovirus transmission happening, it’s been only a matter of time before we’d have some detection of polioviruses in sewage, as happened recently in the U.K.,” she said.11

Polio Vaccinations Urged by Health Officials

The New York case apparently involves a person who was not vaccinated for the poliovirus. This has led to calls by state health officials and others for those who have not had the polio vaccine to move quickly to get the shot.

“Based on what we know about this case, and polio in general, the Department of Health strongly recommends that unvaccinated individuals get vaccinated or boosted with the FDA-approved IPV polio vaccine as soon as possible,” said Mary Bassett, MD, MPH, health commissioner for the state of New York.1 3 5

“This isn’t normal. We don’t want to see this,” said Jennifer Nuzzo, DrPH, a professor of epidemiology and pandemic researcher at Brown University. “If you’re vaccinated, it’s not something you need to worry about. But if you haven’t gotten your kids vaccinated, it’s really important that you make sure they’re up to date.”6

“We want shots in the arms of those who need it,” said Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, DO, MPH, health commissioner for Rockland County.5

One case of vaccine-derived polio and they’re already calling for shots for a virus believed to have been eradicated in the U.S. since 1979. Are declared victories over disease-causing pathogens that tenuous?

  1. It does seem to be warranted that if a person has polio and their fecal material can transmit it via sewage, or via coughing or sneezing.

The dead-virus vaccine doesn’t cause polio, so this will actually protect vulnerable people from catching polio from the person in Rockland County. This is just a 45-minute drive from me. I’m concerned. Rockland County is home to one of the largest ultra-orthodox Jewish communities, in communal living (small apartments in large apt. buildings) in the nation. Their beautiful families are large and thriving; however, there are small babies in many or most of these families, babies under the age of 2 months who can’t yet be vaccinated against polio.

This is how a major measles outbreak took place just a few years ago in this very population. People imagined somehow from the outbreak that Jews don’t get vaccinated; but this isn’t it at all. Statistics show they do choose vaccination and at higher rates than non-Jews. But the reason for the outbreak is that so many of the specifically ultra-orthodox families have babies young enough that they can’t yet be vaccinated. Like very traditional Catholics, ultra-orthodox Jews don’t believe in the use of birth control; it’s a religious belief.

It is a protection to these precious children for others in society to be vaccinated and thus, unable to transmit measles, polio, and other dread diseases to babies too young to be vaccinated, or to individuals with allergies to vaccine components or for other reasons such as religious/philosophical/conscientious objection beliefs. All those who can be vaccinated without violating their own health or beliefs should be! Allowing others who can’t be to benefit from herd immunity and to stay safe and not be forced to do something they deem to be harmful to their bodies or their conscience.

  2. After reading the book “The moth in the iron lung” by Forrest Maready (Sp?), it has become clear to me there is no reason to inject anyone with this vaccine. People are becoming ill from these injections rather than becoming ill and needing a vaccine. Just more fear tactics that people are still falling for.

  3. So was the unidentified person that contracted type 2 “vaccine-derived” poliovirus (VDPV2), and developed paralysis, was temporarily hospitalized and released. 1

Was this person released because it was a temporary paralysis? This is very unclear from the article.

  4. Please make the following correction to your article: Even though most of the country stopped using the “live” polio vaccines because of the risk of spreading the disease, it is still currently used here in the US. It’s administered mostly at free inner city community clinics.

Unfortunately we will be seeing more of these vaccine associated diseases from childhood vaccines as people become immunocompromised from the C-sh0t.

    1. Dr. Mascorro, do you know what manufacturer is distributing OPV in the U.S. under an active license? Can you provide the names of one or two community clinics that are administering OPV? I would be more than glad to contact them. I just require some validating information from you.

      Thank you,

  5. “. . . . . (NVIC) called on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to discontinue use of live OPV in the U.S. and replace it with the Salk inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) that cannot cause vaccine strain polio.

Although it is still given to people, in many countries around the world, the OPV has not been used in the U.S. since 2000. The U.S. administers only the IPV. . . . . . ”

It amazes me that it took them over 40 years to take this damnable stuff off the market. But they still inject people in 3rd world countries and the end result is paralyses and death, especially in the past 10 years in Africa and India. And, they knew exactly what they were doing.

As a child of 13, my family and I received the OPV. After the 3rd dose, I ended up with “flu like” symptoms with terrible pain in my back and legs. Guillain Barre, Polio, transverse myelitis, coxsackie, MS; whatever you want to call it. It all boils down to nerve damage.

  6. Salk polio vaccine probably caused more cases of polio than it prevented. The Gold Standard Francis Field Trial of Salk Vaccine had the same reaction rate as did the Cutter Incident. In Boston in the summer of 1955 over 4,000 cases of polio followed the release of an unused vaccine from the Francis Field Trial and the Massachusetts Medical Society withdrew its recommendation for use of Salk IPV.

Salk IPV is not a killed virus – it is impossible, prior to infinity, to inactivate all the polio viruses in a batch of vaccine. The M-199 in current Salk Vaccine is actually synthetic trypsin – a pancreatic chemical initially used in vaccine production to enable polio viruses to infect monkey cells. John Enders won the 1954 Nobel Prize for using this agent to enable polio viruses to infect non-neural cells.

M-199 (synthetic trypsin) – injected as part of the current Salk vaccine now – enhances the ability of weakened residual live viruses to infect the person receiving the injection and may actually not paralyze that person, but spread from either the stool or saliva to close personal contacts and paralyze them…see the Cutter Incident.

Acute Flaccid Myelitis is diagnostically identical to classic polio – Asymmetric, ascending, flaccid paralysis. Although classic polio begins in one of the lower legs and moves up the body, injected polio can initiate in the injected limb of the victim (or the opposite limb) as the virus travels through the nerves and hits the spinal cord at the same level as the opposite limb. Fathers and Mothers traditionally become “Contact Cases” of polio.

The Francis Field Trial comprised the greatest charade in the history of medicine.

Thomas Francis, Jonas Salk, Albert Sabin (and later Samuel Katz – Chairman of the American Academy of Pediatrics Infectious Disease Committee) were all members of the Armed Forces Epidemiological Board (AFEB) under the command of Joseph Smadel.
[Katz studied in London during the introduction of the Salk vaccine in 1955].

Joseph Smadel shut down Bernice Eddy’s laboratory after her discovery of the fact that Salk vaccine production fluids caused cancer in hamster. The SV-40 causing the cancers generated a Nobel Prize for another one of Smadel’s minions – AFEB member – Maurice Hilleman.

One hundred million doses of Salk vaccine were distributed through 1963 all contaminated with SV-40 which spread in the sperm of the millions of soldiers administered Salk vaccine during that time.

There is no evidence that SV-40 causes cancers in humans…credit the FDA for that…physicians are prohibited by the FDA of ordering SV-40 PCR tests on cancer victims for the purpose of diagnosing the cause of cancer.

  7. People sometimes get sick from vaccines?☣️?. OVP is a live vaccine. The vaccine is working as planned.

  8. I would like to add to this discussion a book recommendation, Seven Wheelchairs: A Life Beyond Polio by Gary Presley.

It’s a true story about how Gary, when 17, got the Salk vaccination for polio in 1959, after which he contracted polio and never walked again.

An excellent, albeit heartbreaking, read by a talented writer.

  9. Everybody want to blame the unvaccinated but the aggressors are the vaccinated. If they would STOP THE DAMN VACCINE it would stop shedding and go away.
