Blockbuster Vaccine Sales Drive Higher Earnings for Merck

higher earnings

Merck & Co., Inc. reported a strong financial start to 2019, with an eight percent increase in it first-quarter earnings, due partly to vaccine sales. Worldwide sales for the pharmaceutical company in the first quarter reached $10.8 billion, up from approximately $10 billion in the first quarter of 2018. Merck attributed the overall growth to sales of its vaccines and oncology products.1

Sales of Gardasil (quadrivalent) and Gardasil 9 (nine-valent) HPV vaccines aimed at preventing certain cancers and genital warts, caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), increased by 27 percent for a total of $838 million in Gardasil vaccine sales in the first quarter of 2019.1

International sales represented 58 percent of Merck’s total first-quarter earnings, with China leading the market, particularly with the commercial launch of Gardasil in the country. HPV vaccine rates are increasing for both boys and girls in Europe, which created higher demand and sales for vaccines. Meanwhile, this international sales growth offset lower sales for HPV vaccines in the U.S.1

Further, Merck experienced a 27 percent boost in first-quarter sales from 2018 to 2019 in pediatric vaccines, which include Varivax (varicella virus vaccine live) to prevent chickenpox, and Proquad (measles, mumps, rubella and varicella virus vaccine live) and M-M-R II (measles, mumps, rubella virus vaccine live), two combination vaccines. Sales for the three vaccine products totaled $496 million in the first quarter of 2019.1

Given Merck’s higher-than-expected first-quarter profit, the firm raised its outlook for the full-year earnings, forecasting a range between $43.9 billion to $45.1 billion.1

“Our strong start to 2019, with double-digit sales and earnings per share growth in the first quarter, demonstrates our execution across all aspects of our business and the strength of our key growth pillars, including oncology and vaccines,” said Merck’s chairman and chief executive officer, Kenneth Frazier. “Our investments in research and development are paying off, and we are confident in our science-driven strategy, growth prospects and ability to sustainably deliver value to patients and shareholders.”1

  2. People should have right to choose meek is arrogant and unethical greedy die hearts to profit by taking children’s life’s thi is hitlerizm

  3. Should anyone be surprised? Merck has profited from us for too long. If the majority of the population would look at their “Safety History”……..and their False Information regarding Safety of their Vaccines……….I think things would turn around. This site can only help more people to become more informed. I Praise them………and hope more people will read and pass on to others. Common Sense and True Facts is what we all we should all strive for.

  4. Merck establishes drug-taking clients for life after vaccination slowly destroys their immune systems. It’s a great business model for Merck, not so much for the rest of us who have to pay for people dumb enough to believe that vaccination works. The human immune system cannot be “tricked” into producing just the right and just the right number of antibodies to ward off some viral disease. What vaccination does do is bi-pass the body’s normal defenses and confuse the body so that it attacks itself, or good cell material as well as bad. It’s ludicrous to think poisoning the blood directly is going to improve on God’s handiwork. The whole vaccination paradigm is not only superstitious; it is insane, as well as satanic. The religion as well as the science of vaccination is all on the side of those who refuse to believe the “scientists” who create the toxic witches’ brews they’re now forcing on our children.

  5. Given that 72% of the US public thinks that vaccines should be mandatory, this thing won’t just go away. Vaccination has become institutionalized, like the rest of what passes for “health care” in the US.

However, that 28% can be a very powerful force, if we are organized and coherent and articulate.

We have to rely on the truth, the facts, our gut instincts and our experiences. I doubt we can gain much with talk of science, unless it’s talk of fraudulent science. But most people don’t understand scientific talk. Mostly what they know is “the science is settled,” and it makes them feel good about vaccination.

I think about this issue quite a lot. Science, like vaccines, is a man-made thing, and the results of research often come filtered through a very human, and therefore unavoidably tainted, state of consciousness. Those study results are often, as it turns out, completely tainted by the need for profits.

I have trusted my gut on vaccines for many years. I refused a tetanus vaccine in the mid-1970s, which was years later than the last vaccine I had, as a child. I don’t allow them for my pets. My instinct said, “We don’t need this.” And it has come to pass that not only do we not need this, now there’s evidence we don’t want any part of it.

Modern science is creating all kinds of things of highly questionable integrity: GMOs, pesticides, dangerous chemical compounds, all of which are highly touted as useful for this time on earth. We fail to look deeply into life and how it works.

There are ancient systems of knowledge that can be of enormous value for creating real health. Ayurveda is one such system. This is the direction health care must go. There is in Ayurveda a saying: “Without proper diet, medicines are of no use. With proper diet, medicines are of no need.”

  6. Please take a look at your 401, 403B or any investment plans and make sure your money is not invested in these drug companies. My investment broker said it would be difficult to change my money market funds but with the threat to find a new broker he was able to make sure I was not supporting PHARMA or Bayer, Syngenta,Dow or any companies I feel are unethical.
Individually it’s a drop in the bucket, but collectively it would be noticed.
